#No2Harm is a community-led campaign run by Stepping Stones In The Community (SITC) to tackle the rise of nitrous oxide misuse among young people and within local neighbourhoods.
Through outreach, education, partnerships and community action, we aim to:
Raise awareness of the health and legal risk
Support young people to make safer choices
Reduce nitrous oxide litter in our parks, streets and estates
Work with partners to create long-term change
What started as a local response has grown into a wider movement, working with organisations across the West Midlands and beyond.
Why is Nitrous Oxide Misuse Dangerous?
Health Risks
Misuse can cause dizziness, blackouts, confusion, and in some cases long-term nerve damage and breathing problems.
Safety & Environment
Used canisters are often left on streets, in parks and near schools, creating hazards and making areas feel unsafe.
Impact on Young People
Nitrous oxide is sometimes seen as “harmless fun”, but it can quickly become risky, especially when mixed with other substances or used repeatedly.
Community Concerns
Residents, parents and local businesses are worried about the impact on neighbourhood safety, young people’s futures and community wellbeing.
What We’re Doing Through #No2Harm
Through #No2Harm, SITC works with young people, families, schools, local authorities and national partners to reduce harm and change attitudes around nitrous oxide.
Education & Workshops
We deliver sessions in youth clubs, schools and community spaces to raise awareness, challenge myths, and give young people the facts they need.
Community Clean-Ups & More
We support local clean-up efforts, removing canisters from public spaces and making areas feel safer for families and residents.
Partnership Working
We work with councils, police, health services and other organisations to develop joined-up responses and long-term strategies.
Support & Signposting
We listen to young people and families, offering guidance and signposting to further support if nitrous oxide misuse is affecting their lives.
Our Impact & Partnerships
The #No2Harm campaign has grown through strong partnerships and community support. We are proud to have worked alongside organisations such as:
Local councils and community safety teams
Schools, colleges and youth services
West Midlands Police and local PCSOs
National and regional organisations concerned about nitrous oxide misuse
Together, we’ve delivered awareness sessions, community patrols, events and campaigns aimed at reducing harm and promoting safer choices.
